Rose is part of our Fountain of Youth herbal tea Collection
The rose is considered as the most beautiful flower in the world, renowned for its exquisite fragrance. Originating from Persia, it is cultivated from at least 500 B.C. in Mediterranean and Middle East countries.
For centuries, the rose has been a symbol of beauty and love. While the Greeks and Romans dedicated the rose to the Gods, the Persians, in their poems and paintings, associated it with the nightingale. Once the flowers complained in Heaven that their Queen, the Lotus blossom, slept by night. In order to bring about a reconciliation, Allah named the white rose Queen of Flowers.
Of the hundreds of rose species cultivated around the world, the damask rose ( Rosa Damascena ) is the most fragrant of all. The exquisite fragrance of this rose has been captured and preserved in the form of rose oil and rose water by a method that can be traced to ancient times in the Middle East, where it is still highly praised as food, cosmetic and traditional medicine.
Bulgaria and Turkey are currently the top producing countries of damask roses. The Rose Valley, a region just south of the Balkan Mountains, is where most of the production takes place in Bulgaria. The picking season lasts from May to June and is intensely manual with flowers carefully picked one by one by hand, and laid in willow-baskets every morning before dawn.
Today, Damask roses are commercially harvested mainly for their use in high-end perfumery. Essential oil made from the Bulgarian Damask Rose ( rose otto ) can cost more than $500 per ounce ! The Damask rose is highly praised and used in cooking as a flavouring ingredient or spice in Persian, Indian, and Middle Eastern cuisine. Damask rose water is very popular in the flavoring of desserts such as ice cream, jam, Turkish delights and marzipan. Whole Damask flower buds and petals are also dried to make a delicious herbal tea called "zuhurat".

When it is to your taste, remove the tea bag and serve. If you have any leftover, just refrigerate and reheat gently the following day.

Before scooping, shake your FloralTea tin upside down to blend, for perfect taste and color from one cup to the next.
